Freya Hoffmeister - somewhere in the middle of nowhere

Undeterred, sea kayaker Freya Hoffmeister continues her circumnavigation of North America. Started in 2017, she has now arrived at paddle day 840 this summer (as of 23 July 2023). She is far up in Canada's Northern Territories, far above the Arctic Circle, somewhere behind the settlement of Tuktoyaktuk with just under 1000 inhabitants. Location information is only vague, is only approximately found even by Google Maps: Russell Inlet or Seal Bay not at all, but at least the huge McKinley Bay. She reports on polar bears in her daily diary on Facebook, on sightings of whales, seals or belugas, or on a 60.3-kilometre-long crossing of a bay that saved her and her paddling partner Jimmy a lot of time - and energy. Again and again they are on the lookout for drinking water and safe places to land and spend the night.

Earlier in the year, she travelled south. There, from 13 March to 24 April, she covered the distance between Panama City on the Pacific side to Puerto Cobezas in Nicaragua. This means she has left the Panama Canal behind for the second time, is back in the Caribbean and just before the Gulf of Mexico.

Freya Hoffmeister - still 32.000 kilometers to paddle

50,000 kilometers lay ahead of Freya Hoffmeister when she set out in 2017 to become the first person in the world to circumnavigate North America in a sea kayak. She has now completed 18,000 kilometers in May 2022. She started in Seattle and has since circumnavigated North America in two half circles, eventually completing both half circles on the North Coast. Where else but in New York, virtually under the torch of the Statue of Liberty. "Seven, eight years" will probably still be needed, she says this spring. Originally, she planned to complete the whole trip in about ten years.

In the meantime, she has come as far south as Puerto Sandino near Nicaragua's capital, Managua, not far from the Panama Canal, which she has already crossed in a sea kayak while circumnavigating South America. At the end of February, with day 680 of the North American circumnavigation, she finished this "leg" and has since returned to her home in Husum to take care of her two ice cream parlors.

With Aqupacs up to the Arctic Ocean

And to prepare the summer leg, which will take her from June onwards from Wainwright in Alaska, with its population of just under 600, even further up into the Arctic Ocean. This time, two women will accompany Freya Hoffmeister in sea kayaks. Human settlements no longer exist, so the food must be on board the kayaks, about 80 kilos are on board. And a pump shotgun, because the polar bears are not exactly harmless.

On board, of course, are a number of electronic devices such as navigation systems or satellite telephone. They are all safely packed in waterproof bags from Aquapac. We have been sponsoring Freya Hoffmeister with our bags for years, and have also been on board her circumnavigations of South America, Australia or New Zealand.

We have it right:

On Tuesday evening, October 13th, Apple presented its new iPhone ™ models - in addition to new technology, new design and new colors also new sizes. The following models fit in the following Aquapac ™ cases:

  • iPhone™: fits in our 348

Protect your equipment from germs and bacteria
On average, we touch our faces 23 times an hour and our smartphones more than 2000 times a day. At a time when hygiene is more important than ever, preparing yourself to stop responding to these impulses could save lives - which is not so easy because we do it without thinking. Aquapac's waterproof cell phone cases are an excellent way to avoid cross-contamination between hands, phone and face and to reduce the likelihood of dangerous germs being brought home from work and vice versa.

The sleeves are available in different sizes that are suitable for any smartphone, tablet or radio. They are sealed watertight so that you can insert a disinfected device in the case and close it. This prevents bacteria or germs from touching your phone directly.

Aquapac sleeves are 100% waterproof and allow you to continue using your device as you normally would, including speaking and listening, taking photos and videos, and using touchscreens. The sleeves are also great for protecting keys, inhalers, medical devices and cards. The contactless function of your card even works in the case.

When you have finished your activity outside, at work or wherever and come to a safe environment, simply wash your hands and the Aquapac case thoroughly with soap. Then take out your device and use it as usual.

But first of all: Stay healthy!

Aquapac - also helps against corona viruses

Especially in times of the Corona crisis, it is important to keep your smartphone or tablet clean. Because just like doorknobs, buttons, toilets or grab bars of the tube, the constant companions can be contaminated with germs, bacteria or viruses - or be contaminated when you are traveling with them.

Simply pack the device in the water and dustproof protective cover from Aquapac. The special TPU foil does not penetrate anything, but you can still use your smartphone as usual, everything works, including the touchscreen. Aquapacs have been used in cleanrooms, laboratories or similar facilities for years. Nursing services also use our bags to minimize the spread of germs, bacteria and even viruses.

Follow the advice of all health experts: Wash your hands thoroughly several times a day. Do the same with your mobile phone: simply rinse the Aquapac thoroughly. The foil even tolerates disinfectants or warm water. A small contribution to the further containment of Covid-19.

PS: We are currently not affected by the virus and deliver as usual.

Corona - Aquapac protects against virus also

Aquapacs have always been used in clean rooms, laboratories or sensitive areas as in clinics or hospitals. This is because devices such as cordless telephones, smartphones or tablets that are brought there can be contaminated with germs or bacteria, which can be responsible for damage that is difficult to repair or heal.

The reverse is also true in times of the rapidly spreading corona virus, as Aquapacs managing director Petra Lichtenberg knows. If the smartphone is packed in an Aquapac, it cannot be infected - whatever. Nevertheless, the device remains fully operable as usual. "And when you come back in the evening, just let water run over your Aquapac before you unpack your smartphone," recommends the managing director: "Just as you should wash your hands several times a day to prevent infection." In any case, you don’ t have to fear no longer that you get a virus using your device.

Anja Kruse and Uwe-Sören Schmidt get the titles

The German championship in speed windsurfing is decided. New German Champion is Uwe-Sören Schmidt (GER-710) from Bremerhaven. He won in front of Michael Naumann (GER-14) from Warnemünde and Torsten Mallon (GER-818) from Hamburg. Hanover's Anja Kruse (GER-535) was the most successful, followed by Brigit Höfer (GER-117) from Albershausen and Gila Steinbacher (G570) from Wunstorf. Particularly pleasing is the participation of 5 adolescents / young adults in the U20 classification, the 1st secured David Homberg (GER-2101) from Bochum in front of Michel Gutbier (GER-1203) from Edertal and Niklas Holzhauer from Kassel.

Once again Aquapac sponsered the championship with his waterproof bags. At the raffle all lots were pulled out and just as quickly the prizes were awarded. As outlined by Birger Bruhns, who we sponsor for years and who is responsible for the raffle: "Water sports know just what is good!"

It fits

Apple introduced its new iPhones yesterday. We have the right shell that makes the devices submersible up to ten meters, and that for hours. Everything remains usable through the tpu-foil, the touch screen anyway and the new camera through a special photo-proof foil. Here is an overview of what fits where:

So, who wants to have it completely waterproof from the 20th of September ....

Speedsurfers searching for their champion

Since the weekend (31.August) run in Orth on Fehmarn in the windsurfing class "Speed" the German Championships. Among the 62 participants are eight women. This is a record in every way because so many riders have never registered. Since the number of participants is limited to 65, only day visitors can now be admitted.
So far (as of 4 September), the number of official races is very “mau”: The wind does not play. An official race can only be started from 5 wind speeds. The daily routine will be announced at the morning Skippers' Meeting. Depending on the wind forecast, the first race may start at 8 o'clock or the last at 17 o'clock. From Thursday, the weather forecast bids more wind - let's see what happens.
As a sponsor, by the way - once again - Aquapac. We support the drivers with our waterproof bags.

"Rescue Kit" in the field test

The Einhaus group blog tested our Rescue Kit and concluded, "Data recovery on non-waterproof smartphones and other devices does not hurt to have such a rescue kit in place, whether it's always working or not it's not a guarantee, but if the precious photos and documents are suddenly locked up in a water-damage device, any means are right to recover them, right? "
The blog has "sacrificed" two functioning mobile phones and thrown them into the water: both have survived this practical test. Both devices were packaged in the Rescue Kit, both working again after the test.

And here is the link to the rescue set.

Summer, sun, sand - and thieves: Where to go with Smartphone & Co.?

Smartphones have become our constant companions. No place where we do not take it with us, including the beach, the swimming lake the swimming pool or the pool. It would be too bad if you can not share nice moments or take pictures.
If there are no dangers lurking there: thieves, sun heat, sand and water. Everyone is after the good piece. The loss of the device could perhaps still cope, but not the loss of data.
This is where Aquapac comes into play. We can help against all four problems. Just put the smartphone, mini-tablet or tablet in our waterproof bag and take it everywhere, even into the water or underwater. The waterproof seal Aquapac even guarantees a depth of ten meters. And best of all, smartphones and the like remain fully operable through the slide, be it talking on the phone, texting, listening to music or operating the touch screen. Even the photo function is completely guaranteed by a special photo film. A photo of the reef dwellers to the loved ones? That would be something.

In early September, the German championship in speed wind surfing again took place on the Orther bay in front of Fehmarn. Birger Bruhns, who has been sponsored by Aquapac for years, was also there. He occupies the tenth place among 30 participants. In the men's race, Michael Naumann won, Anja Kruse took the lead in the women's category.

The protected but large bay of Orth has the advantage of designing the course depending on the wind direction. In order to catch enough wind for the Speed ??DM in the persistent summer weather, a good line belongs to the wind gods. After a few practice runs, the Connections paid off: The first three races could be driven. With two won races, Michael Naumann from Warnemünde took the lead. Uwe Sören Schmidt was second, followed by Ralf Ewers. The maximum speed was 34.5 knots (63.89 km / h) on this day. For the women, Anja Kruse from Hannover was ahead of Birgit Höfer from Albershausen and Katrin Nürnberg from Lübeck.

After two sunny days of lull - Armin Höfer won the buoy throwing - two more races were held on September 6th, this time on the shortened 250 meter track. Both Uwe Sören Schmidt and Michael Naumann were able to secure another victory here. It was also Michael Naumann who secured the title on the final day in the sixth and final race with another victory. Vice-champion was Uwe Sören Schmidt and last year's champion Ralf Ewers was third.

Anja Kruse won the ladies' ranking, followed by last year's winner Birgit Höfer and Katrin Nürnberg. In the youth classification Henrik Ewers won ahead of Michel Gutbier and Patrick Feldmann.

Birger Bruhns, whose GPS loggers were packaged safely and watertight in the Aquapac as always, drew his own conclusions. In six races in eight days, the wind was so weak that "unfortunately" only the biggest sails with 7.8 and 8.6 square meters were used. Birger Bruhns: "I am with more than 100 kilos the lighter riders but something inferior. "

The articles from our so varied assortment were very well received by the participants at the award ceremony. Aquapac had again provided products.

More about Birger Bruhns here.

German Championship in Speed Windsurfing 2018

The material is spotted and directed, possibly even packed: On September 1, the German championships in speed windsurfing will begin on Fehmarn. Orth is firmly in the hands of the surfers until Saturday, September 8th. If there were not enough races, the Sunday is also added. The German Champions are determined in three classes: men, women and young people, seniors are evaluated separately in individual classes.
Aquapac is a sponsor.

Speedsurfing

Speedsurfing is the Formula 1 wind-powered water craft. Speeds beyond the 60 km / h let the adrenalin boil in the veins, the speed surfers report. Dangers become an exact measured course of 100, 250 or 500 meters
In the fight against the clock, the Speed discipline is aimed primarily at the individualists who have perfectly matched their material to tickle every ounce of speed out of the board. In slalom, the fastest material is less important than board control and a good jibe.

How do speed surfers measure speed?

In many national and international speed races, an almost exact speed is determined by electronic hand timekeeping and transmitted immediately to a scoreboard. Later, the exact times are checked via the video recordings and corrected if necessary.
Since 2006, almost exclusively GPS devices are used, creating many new options in the area selection, and the surfer can immediately read his times on his GPS device. The most used GPS device is the GT-31 from Amaryllo or Locosys. For the Aquapac has a matching waterproof wrist bag on offer.

Where do races take place?

For speed surfing the speed surfers need as smooth as possible water and wind with at least 5 Beaufort. In addition to the strength of the wind, the direction of the speed is crucial. Ideal are wind directions with about 114 to 120 degrees, in the extreme case up to 150 degrees to the driven course.
Since the speed route should be as parallel to the shore as possible due to the time measurement and the smooth water, there are some preferred spots: Starting from the nearby areas on the North and Baltic Sea or in the south of France (Leucate), the legendary Tarifa in Spain and - known by various World Records - the beach of Sotavento on Fuerteventura.

Conclusion of the Challenge

Swiss Mocean has drawn a line under its crossing of the Atlantic in a rowboat as part of the Talisker ™ Whiskey Atlantic Challenge 2018. Laurenz, Luca, Yves and Marlin were rowing from the Canary Island of La Gomera to Antigua in new record time, unfortunately a boat was even faster.

With the help of the sponsors, the handsome sum of CHF 30,000 was also collected. The complete sum was handed over to PeCA, the Swiss children's home in Romania (www.abandonati.ch). The quartet: "This can significantly improve the fate of the children and we can all be very proud of that."

"Together we wrote Swiss sports history," the four are happy in their letter of thanks to all supporters: "We could learn a lot from the project and although we are all back in everyday life, we will probably for the rest of our lives a part Atlantic in us. We are infinitely grateful for that. "
The SFR has filmed a four-part SRF documentation of the crossing that is available online here: Link

Aquapac has supported the four with waterproof bags for their Atlantic crossing.

Save on festivals with your smartphone

Fan Mile or Public Viewing, Festival or Open Air Concert: There are plenty of opportunities - alright, one less - where to tour this summer. And where, of course, the smartphone must be there to capture unforgettable moments. Blue skies, bright sunshine or a cozy summer night is what everyone wants. The reality is often different: rain, dust or mud. How does the smartphone overcome these challenges?
With an Aquapac. Simply open the clip, put the smartphone in the 100% waterproof and dustproof case, close the clip again. And then your expensive loyal companion nothing more can happen. Despite the all-round protection, the device remains fully operable. Touchscreen, Bluetooth, phone calls, speech or hearing work without any negative effects through the foil. And so that photos or videos without loss of quality something, Aquapac has built a photo-realistic photo film. Despite rain: Smartphone out and catch every moment.

In a rowing boat across the Atlantic

It is considered to be the toughest rudder regatta in the world: the Talisker™ Whiskey Atlantic Challenge. Since 1966, extreme rudders have crossed their borders: storms, huge waves, lack of sleep, cramped space or sun that burns from the sky. This year, 2017, a team from Switzerland will meet this challenge for the first time: "SWISS MOCEAN". It consists of Yves Schultheiss, Lucas Baltensperger, Laurence Elsässer and Marlin Strub. They have been training and preparing for the Challenge since 2014. Start is in December in San Sebastian on the Canary Island of La Gomera, destination is English Harbor on Antigua in the Caribbean. Day and night is rowed, 24 hours, around the clock. In the two-hour cycle, the rowers alternate. Two hours to row, two hours to recover. Their goal is to undercut the existing world record of a four-team of 37 days and 9 hours. The team is sponsored by Aquapac™, the marketleader for waterproof cases.

Freya Hoffmeister - the first 151 days are done

At the end of August Freya Hoffmeister took the first stage of her encirclement of North America in sea kayak. 151 days she was at sea. The extreme sportswoman started in Seattle, at Cape Kiwanda / Oregon tie first leg was finished. The first part of her stage led her up north to Kodiak on Kodiak Island, which was significantly further than her originally envisioned Anchorage. As there was still some time left after her return to Seattle she paddled south to Cape Kiwanda.
The first stage went well, as she observed. She did not even capsize. The weather and the wind showed up from their better side. There was no first confrontation with the feared brown bears. Everyone left enough room.
Returning to Husum is now the opening of her Christmas business and a series of lectures. Plans for 2018 are also well advanced. In March 2018, she goes back to North America. There, Freya Hoffmeister plans to begin a part of the southern half-circle of her circumnavigation for three months. Starting in June, the trip continues for three months to the north. For this challenging part, Freya has already sought and found co-paddlers who will support her. On her way to the north, she  will slowly entering areas where she is no longer dealing with brown or blackbears, but with polar bears.
Freya Hoffmeister has planned for the approximately 50,000 kilometer round trip around the year. But it can also be twelve - depending on how it prevails and how the body plays.

Speed-Championship on Fehmarn: Birger Bruhns will start once again.

Meeting point of Surf Speed Racer

The dreamy Orther Bay on the island of Fehmarn will again be the meeting point for speed racers and adrenaline junkies from Saturday, September 2nd. The German championship in speed windsurfing in 2017 then loads again for a week onlookers, interested parties and guest drivers to join in and marvel at one. A specific point system determines the fastest speed wind surfer within this week. The qualification for the top stairway podium is achieved by a fast-paced, up to the 80 hour kilometer fast driving style as well as the selection of the most suitable material. By means of a GPS signal, the competitors are determined during their speed travel of 250 or 500 m length. A tight head-to-head race allows the tension to rise daily to victory. The surfer elite hopes, as every year, on best wind conditions, sunshine and a smooth sea. On low days, all sorts of skills and experience are exchanged. The visitor can certainly get a few tips and possibly also a piece from the professional collection, as always offered by one or other elite driver surfing material.

Smartphone rescue after water damage

Only briefly inattentive. And then it happened. The smartphone is wet after a shower, a glass of water has poured over it, it is in the pool or even in the toilet. If no watertight protective cover was around it like our Aquapacs, good advice is expensive. Will the expensive piece ever work again? Are important data and contacts irredeemably lost?

What to do?

In addition to regular data backup, a fast response is required. Because: the shorter the contact of the smartphone inner life with water, the higher the survival chances:

  • Turn off the unit IMMEDIATELY.
  • If a cover is around, remove it.
  • Remove SIM and memory cards.
  • If the battery is not installed, remove it.
  • Dry everything.

Rescue Kit

Now our Rescue Kit comes into play: a desiccant from highly effective molecular sieves that absorb the moisture. Packed is the desiccant in an aluminum bag. Open this pouch, insert the smartphone together with the dampened accessory, close the ZIP closure of the pouch and wait about 24 hours. The material is dust-free, it is so large that it does not sit in connections or scratches, is environmentally friendly and can come into contact with the skin without anything happening. By the way, the set is so big that a mini-tablet fits in. And the plus devices always.

Did it work?

We recommend leaving the smartphone in the pouch for at least 24 hours so that the last moisture can be taken out of the device. Then comes the great moment. Reassemble the unit and turn it on. We keep our fingers crossed. The fact that with the rescue kit the smartphone actually works again, we can unfortunately not guarantee. An attempt is however all worth it. Better than having to buy a new device. Or you have to go to the expert who can open and clean the device in his smartphone workshop and try to recover data.

Precaution

You should always have a rescue set ready to react immediately. Or pack your smartphone into an Aquapac smartphone case. In this case, the smartphone is not just waterproof-packed, but can be easily operated through the film. The touchscreen works as well as talking, listening or telephoning. Anyone who wants to take photos or videos can do this by the special photoechte Lenzflex film on the back.

What you should not do

If the smartphone has fallen into the water, you should not try to dry it with the hairdryer. The airflow pushes the moisture even further into the device and can cause even worse damage. In addition, adhesive joints and plastic parts can suffer.

Oven or microwave? Not a good idea eather, since damage to electronic parts are not excluded and acute fire danger threatens.

Rice? Eat it better. Uncooked rice also attracts moisture. The molecular sieves, however, are significantly more effective.

Waiting? The smartphone interior does not dry by itself. Rather, rust may be produced by remaining residual moisture. Even if the smartphone should work again, it could work through the corrosion unreliably. And you do not want that?

No. 3 – The North Island: Never Start Stopping – Never Stop Starting

This expedition around North America will be Freya’s third continent and her challenge for the next 8-10 years. It is impossible for her to judge how long it will take to complete. The distance is roughly 50.000 km/ 30.000 miles, to be paddled in blocks of 3-5 months on and off the trip. It's another mind-boggling and insane long distance trip - tougher and longer than Freya’s first and second continent trips combined.

Freya will paddle in two half loops, starting twice in Seattle and finishing twice in New York City. She’ll paddle northwards half of the year’s trip time and southwards the other half. From Canada to Panama - through the North-West Passage and the Panama Canal. Freya will paddle fully inside the big Gulf of Mexico and Bahia California and cross Hudson Bay. No one has circumnavigated this whole continent by kayak before. Will her body hold up? It will be an unsupported expedition mostly paddled solo.

The challenges, despite her vast kayak expedition experience, are impossible to list here – it’s just another continent! Paddling with Black-, Brown-, Grizzly- and Polar bears plus a lot of ice in the north will be new to Freya…is the rest just “business as usual” after her two other continental circumnavigations? The northern sections are only ice free for a few months per year, so paddling in just one direction would extend her circumnavigation by even more years. And age is proceeding with all of us…but “Never stop starting – Never start stopping!” is her motto for her new trip!

Using satellite communication the trip will be documented with daily posts on her website and Facebook pages.

Freya's previous expeditions included record-circumnavigations around South America 2011-2014, Australia 2009, New Zealand South 2007, Iceland 2007 and Ireland 2016. She is the most experienced expedition paddler in the world and has received a range of awards including the "World-Paddle Award", National Geographic's "Adventurer of the Year and the "European Adventurer of the Year" Award.

During all her expeditions Aquapac was on board with ist waterproof cases for all kind of electronical or personel equipment.

More informations about her biography on her website www.freyahoffmeister.com.

Aren’t the new iPhones waterproof already?

  • the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are described by Apple as “water-resistant”. When new they should be waterproof to IPX7 – but Apple warn that the water resistance may wear off

“splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions and resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear”

  • and repairs are not covered if water damage does occur

“liquid damage is not covered under warranty”

  • Apple recommend that you don’t swim or bathe with them, or otherwise intentionally submerge them
  • and other activities they say you should avoid are showering, water-skiing, wake-boarding, surfing, or jet-skiing.

So for all our windsurf and kite-surfing friends – you have been warned!

Submersible

An Aquapac submersible case will step the waterproofness up from IPX7 to IPX8: That's not only for the iPhone, its for the smartphones of other companies too.

Buoyancy

The air trapped inside the Aquapac should also make these new iPhones buoyant. So with the Aquapac you can drop them in the sea and they’ll float safely on the surface, ready for you to retrieve.

Conclusion?

If you need secure, reliable waterproofing for your Phone you may still want to get an Aquapac for it!

"National Geographic" nominates Freya Hoffmeister for "Adventurer of the year"

Freya Hoffmeister has been nominated by the "national geographic" as "Adventurer of the Year". The American magazine thus rewarded her "incredible tour" oft he circumnavigation of South America in a sea kayak. Freya was more than three years and over 16,400 miles on sea to make this performance to become the first person ever. Among other things, she rounded Cape Horn when she was surprised by a storm with winds about 11.

Whether Freya actually gets the "adventurer of the Year" depends on an audience voting, that goes until January 31, 2016. Who combines the most votes at the end wins. Last year, around 520,000 people participated in the voting. The winners include stratospheric jumper Felix Baumgartner or one of the world's best mountain climbers, Edurne Pasaban, who has already climbed all 14 eight-thousanders.

To Freya, which is supported for years by Aquapac lands as far to the front as possible –or wins, please vote here.

World Paddle Award for Freya Hoffmeister

Another success for Freya Hoffmeister; She won the Wordl Paddle Award. In the women's category, known as 'Fearless' and leading superbly from the offset in the public voting with a total 4200 votes, ocean-expeditionist Freya Hoffmeister takes home the Sportswoman-Award for Germany with 56.70% of the amalgamated Academy-public vote – practically the same percentage as male counterpart Hank! Her incredible round-continent paddle of South America (in stages) only concluded in May this year. Receiving her award from Thomas Konietzko, President of the German Canoeing Association, she said:

“As a sportswoman not being able to participate in an Olympic discipline, I'm very thankful to everyone who has been supporting me around all of those islands, and thanks to god I'm still alive, it could have been different, many times.”

Freyas Empfang: "Now a black bread"

Accompanied by dozens Kayakers Freya Hoffmeister has arrived on Friday afternoon, may 1, in the dock port of Puerto Madero in Buenos Aires: 27,000 km and about three years later, where she had begun in her sea kayak the circumnavigation of South America on August 30, 2011.

"I'm quite happy to have again solid ground under your feet," she says beaming at a subsequent press conference on the Museum ship "Sarmiento". Representatives of the Argentine Navy, the German Ambassador and hundreds of spectators received the extreme athlete with jubilation. "This is an unimaginable challenge that Freya Hoffmeister has taken and mastered," said the German Ambassador Bernhard Graf von Waldersee.

Before Freya, no one had never circumnavigates South America by muscle power. Especially because of the dangerous currents and winds at the Cape Horn in southern Chile. Here she came in danger on silvester 2011 due to an unforeseen hurricane. "At such moments one occurs in a survival mode, you no longer think about," she said. "I stayed to happiness in one piece, only the boat suffered pretty."

Also in the North of the continent, more hurdles waiting Hoffmeister with mosquito infestations, tropical heat and towering waves. You need stamina, technique and especially good luck to survive such a move, so the adventuress, who was traveling alone most of the 600 days on the water. "I am very grateful for so much support," said the extreme athlete. Where to go to the next tour, does not reveal the business woman. She forward once to her son, who write straight from high school in Husum, but also on "good black bread at home". Food that can be taken when paddling, was a bit boring in the long term.

Round South-America - Freya "mentally fully burnt out"

Aquapac dicapac Freya Hoffmeister Aquaman breffo spiderpodium

Under permanent headwind and against the current, which partially thrown her back on a trip distance of 14 kilometres, along endless mangrove forests with possible landing points in mud and silt, overnight stay only in hammocks because of the swampy ground, skin infections and then a diarrhea as well. That makes you exhausted, even if essential goals of the fourth stage such as the passage of the Amazon delta are managed. On 26 April 2014 it has happened. Freya Hoffmeister wrote on day 667 of her circumnavigation of South America:

"No paddling today despite reasonable wind. Diarrhea making me even more weak than I already was, plus being mentally fully burnt out made me deciding to take my long home break NOW. I will even have to paddle back tomorrow to reach a reasonable pick up city (Port Luis, Brazil)...I will be back on the trip in a few months!"

Have a good rest Freya!

Boat Show and ISPO 2014 a success:

Always well attended : the Aquapac stand at the Dusseldorf Boat Show

The 'boot' and the ISPO 2014 once again have become a great success : many new contacts , many old contacts, many stimulating and interesting discussions with customers and dealers. "We are very pleased. Our range extension with waterproof backpacks , duffles and bags is very well received," says managing director Petra Lichtenberg. There is still very strong demand for the offer of the world leader in smaller waterproof cases for electronic devices of all kinds. Be it for sailing and sports or for outdoor and professional applications. Moreover, the inclusion of other brands' waterproof cases such as Aryca, Dicapac, Breffo or Spotlight also were received favourably by both consumers and expert audience. "Finally solutions for watertightness from one source" was an often heard statement the Managing Director reports on the feedback: " We will consistently carry on and bring more new products to the market later this year."

Even more waterproof from Aquapac-Aquaman

The new smart phones, mini tablets, e-book readers, tablets or cameras offer more and more possibilities. Except for one: they are not protected against the rigors of nature such as water, snow, dust, sand or dirt. But Aquapac can with its 100% waterproof cases and the worldwide patented closure system.

For the meanwhile 18th time at the boot Dusseldorf 2014 Aquapac-Aquaman Germany GmbH will be presenting its complete range of waterproof cases for all types of electronic devices and their special features such as full operability through the foil, undisturbed speaking and listening or full reception. There are also waterproof bags, backpacks and duffels, with which the worldwide market leader reacts on the growing demand for larger watertight and flexible containers especially in the boat sector. A new produc is presented too: our waterproof messenger bag.

New to the range are waterproof hard cases of the brand "Aryca", for those who love it harder. And the Spiderpodium of the brand "Breffo" with flexible "spider legs", a multi-functional mount for electronic devices, accompanied by the waterproof flashlights of the brand "Spotlight" with an unexpected radiance in comparison to their size.

Local hero underlies German champion

Aquapac wasserdicht Tasche Bernd Flessner Norderney
Bernd Flessner finishing the first race of "Round Norderney".

Bernd Flessner has finished the wind surfing event "Round Norderney" as second. The local hero succumbed the German master Vincent Lang after four races. At the event sponsored by Aquapac the entire German windsurfing elite started. Four days best wind conditions drove the users to up to 55 kilometers per hour over the foaming North Sea waves. So Bernd Flessner managed the approximately 35-kilometer distance in a time of almost 57 minutes, and remained the only one under the one-hour mark. The surfers were equipped with the Pro-Sport Mini by Aquapac and by the case's clear film they could determine their exact location via GPS or read their actual speed. The position data was transferred to the beach, where some 2,000 visitors attended the event.

Bernd Flessner has been sponsored by Aquapac for years. Learn more about him here.

The northern point of South America - and off on vacation

Freya Hoffmeister had already reached the southernmost and the westernmost point of South America. On 3 May the northernmost point followed: Punta Gallinas, Colombia. On day 472 she reached that goal. But that was it almost for the second stage. Because for 8 Mai the extreme paddler has booked the flight back to Germany. On the 2nd Stage she will no longer paddle to the original planned destination Georgetown in Guyana, which would still mean some 2300 kilometers of track.

Freya with this change of her plans responds to the heat in the Caribbean and the constant headwind of East trade winds, which has worn her down noticeably in recent weeks. Her mileage in parts went back to around 30 kilometers a day, where she managed 50 kilometers or more otherwise. To avoid the heat of the day she began her stages at night around one o'clock to be off the water at eleven. She hardly found sleep during the day: insects stung, it was too hot in the tent. And she did not have the desire any longer to make photos. So leave and regenerate.

Which will take until August. Then it goes on in two stages and not as previously planned in one. Instead of reaching the starting point Buenos Aires on her 50th Birthday on 10 May 2014, it will probably be end of 2014 until Freya can complete the circumnavigation of South America. 'Nonstop' anyway was never spoken of by the strong woman ...

Happy Holidays!

First Cape Horn - now the Panama Canal:

AQuapac wasserdicht Tasche Freya Hoffmeister Suedamerika
Freya Hoffmeister is sponsored by Aquapac to protect her electronical equipment.

Freya Hoffmeister handled a substantial part of her second stage around South America: the Panama Canal. No more rough Pacific waves under the keel, but the blue waters of the Caribbean. Getting from one side to the other, was an adventure. Because getting the authorities' permission to paddle the Panama Canal protracted. On a whim, she decided to bypass the "permission" with the help of friends. Shortly behind the first big lock behind Panama City, the kayak was launched. Using side arms and channels she paddled the Rio Chagres into the Caribbean - undetected and without difficulty.

Waiting for Freya in the Caribbean: The constant trade winds with four to five knots. Pure headwind which one day forced her to cancel a started stage and to return to the starting point. For security reasons her blog is updated with two days delay, landing points are not specified.
Freya is now 428 days under way (18 March 2013) and has nearly 14,000 kilometers behind. In front of her are still 3,100 km until the end of the 2nd Stage: Georgetown Guyana.
Furthermore good luck!

Aquapac at 'boot' Dusseldorf and Munich ISPO 2013:

In a double pack the Aquapac-Aquaman Germany GmbH was active in the past few days: At the 'boot' in Dusseldorf and at ISPO Munich. "Both shows have been a success" said managing director Petra Lichtenberg. "At the boat show we aroused a lot of interest, which rivaled the best results in 2012. Still in demand is our waterproof iPad case, as more and more skippers use navigation software on their tablets and smartphones. Cheap alternatives to expensive navigation devices."

At ISPO we presented the new products to the audience that will be on the market later this spring. Our 25-liter backpack gets a small and a big brother: with capacities of 15 liters and 35 liters. There are also three new duffle bags in the sizes 40, 70 and 90 liters, of course, like everything by Aquapac waterproof to the IPX7 standard. And as there must be order in the containers, four waterproof bags in sizes of 2, 4, 7 and 13 liters are added to the range. The bags are marked with different colors, so the customer knows immediately what bag with which content he holds in his hand when he is searching for something inside his bag. All cases are expected soon and should be with us in March. Please take a look.

Freya Hoffmeister: Nearly 400 days on her way

Freya Hoffmeister is on day 390 of her South America circumnavigation and has reached Colombia a few days ago. The Panama Canal is now within reach. In her arms she has got over 12,000 miles and almost another 11,000 kilometers are still ahead. She spent Christmas at home with son and family. Since her return, she is solo on her way again. Her friend, the Dane Peter Unhold no longer accompanies her. The aim of the second stage is Georgetown, Guyana.

Aquapac on the Boot 2013: New Case for iPad Mini

The market leader in waterproof bags will again be represented at the Boot Dusseldorf 2013, for the 17th time. New in our program we will have an iPad Mini Case which will be released in april'. Freya Hoffmeister on the 2nd stage:

Aquapac Freya Hoffmeister wasserdichte Tasche waterproof bag
After a long wait Freya's new kayak finally arrived in Valparaiso.

Extreme athlete Freya Hoffmeister has started the second stage of her South America circumnavigation. On 25 August 2012, she put out to sea in Valparaiso, Peru. A week earlier than planned. And although her ??new kayak was initially lost on the air transport and she had to wait for the Peruvian Navy's permission??.

No matter: Now 8000 km lay ahead of her. Along the coasts of Peru, Ecuador, of course across the equator, and then Colombia before passing through the Panama Canal to the Caribbean and taking the waters of the Atlantic again under the keel. In May 2013, she wants to reach Georgetown, the capital of Guyana.

Again she has packed her complete electronic equipment - of course - in Aquapac's 100% waterproof cases.

Freya Hoffmeister at the "Outdoor-Summit"

Freya Hoffmeister (left) with Aquapac-Deutschland CEO Petra Lichtenberg at the "Outdoor 2012" which was - once again - a success.

8000 km paddled at a stretch on her first stage around South America, but not a single callus on the hands: So Freya Hoffmeister appeared at the outdoor 2012, when she paid her sponsor, the Aquapac-Aquaman Deutschland GmbH, a surprise visit. "They are all gone", she joked in a good mood, "And that dark tan on my hands too."

Freya Hoffmeister already prepares the second leg of her kayak trip around South America. As the first person in the world. On 17 August, she flies to Valparaiso, where in May, her first stage from Buenos Aires to Chile ended. On 1 september 2012 the second 8000 km start: to Georgetown in Guyana, where she will arrive in May 2013.

She used her stay with Aquapac to gather information on the latest products. And to leave her "wish list" for the safe and waterproof housing of her electronic devices such as Smartphone, GPS, satellite phone, iPad or maps. The extreme athlete says, "Absolutely proven bags which I can count on."

Freya Hoffmeister finished the first leg

Aquapac Freya Hoffmeister Ankunft Valparaiso
Freya Hoffmeister at Valparaiso, the end of her first leg of her race "round South-America

Freya Hoffmeister has done it again. She has completed the first leg of her South America circumnavigation. On 3 May 2012, she landed at 18.45 clock in the port of Valparaiso - after 247 days and 7676 km. Congratulations!

The big shindig with spectators and the press was cancelled for the extreme athlete came a day earlier than expected. The reason was to high waves, which made ??it impossible to land at her original landing site. Spontaneously, she paddled further and reached Valparaiso. Where again there were troubles in landing. Finally the Chilean Navy helped. They heaved Freya's Kayak on a zodiac, which was then dragged over concrete steps on land. All safe in the harbor.

"Ick bün all do," said the Husum girl in the broadest Low German accent at the end of the first stage which has offered plenty of highlights so far. Like the rounding of Cape Horn under extreme wind and weather conditions on New Year's Day.

The next day the "offical arrival" was celebreted with officials of Chile and the press. In the next few days it goes back to Husum, where her son has priority. But then also the preparation for the second stage, which is going on in fall. Another 16,000 kilometers are staring Freya Hoffmeister in the face ... More here.

Janice Jakait did it: As the first German she has crossed the Atlantic Ocean in a rowing boat. Today, 21 February 2012 at 1:36 local time she arrived at Port Charles in Barbados. 6309.9 km and 90 days, five hours and 38 minutes on the deep sea lying behind the extreme athlete. Janice: "Now I'm looking forward to a warm shower and a non-wavering bed."
Aquapac had equipped Janice Jakait with waterproof bags for her crossing.

Congratulations! Well done, an admirable performance, both physically and mentally. More infos

Aquapac - a must-have

Aquapac Boot Düsseldorf 2012

"Very good," this is the balance of Aquapac for the 'boot' Düsseldorf. After the most successful participation in the world's largest trade fair for water in 2011, the result was even topped in 2012. More visitors and traders than ever before visited our booth and found out about our waterproof products. Hardly anyone went away without having shopped.

Our new iPad case which celebrated its premiere on the boot attracted great interest in particular. The waterproof headphone jack and the photo-neutral material for the camcorders convinced the top-class audience as well as the sleek cut of the bag, precisely adapted to the dimensions of the iPad. As in 2011 our mobile phone case 108 and our iPad case 668-i were the most sought after items. New customers were astonished that even the touch screen works through the case and that there is no impairment of speech, hearing or photo quality. "I'll take it," was a phrase often heard.

CEO Petra Lichtenberg is more than satisfied. "Just great. We as the market leader will consistently follow our path and offer our customers the best quality and safety. This feedback and the many good conversations are another incentive."

It is already clear: Aquapac will also be on the boot in 2013 - for the 17th time. For those who want to make a note already: From 19 to 27 January 2013, Hall 12, B 66.

Freya Hoffmeister 'round Cape Hoorn - on new years day 2012

Aquapac Freya Hoffmeister Kap Hoorn Südamerika
She made it on new years day 2012: Freya Hoffmeister at the "Albatros", Cape Hoorn in the background

Freya Hoffmeister has achieved a very important milestone in her circumnavigation of South America: Cape Horn. On New Year's Day 2012, the 47-year-old landed her kayak on the island of Isla Hornos, the southernmost island of the Chilean mainland. Two days later, the Husum girl, which is sponsored by Aquapac Germany since years with waterproof bags, put in on the Isla Wollaston at the local navy station. She completed the circumnavigation of Cape Horn, which is known as one of the most dangerous seas in the world due to constant storms, strong currents, fog, rain and wind speeds in hurricane strength.
Experiences that Freya Hoffmeister made firsthand. With up to 150 kilometers per hour wind speed as she only became aware after she paddled with her nut shell over the open water, with great difficulty reached a rocky beach on Isla Deceit: "Somehow and unharmed," as she writes in her blog. There in a storm she waited in a small tent for better weather, to get back on the water. What was at first impossible. The constant noise of the up to 5 foot rolling in waves mentally exhausted her. Sleep and food were unthinkable. The next day the wind finally decreased a bit. One of the four options checked seemed "80 percent" sure enough to come back on the water.

What finally succeeded. Another eleven kilometers to paddle, then she reached the landing site on the Isla Hornos where cruise tourists go ashore. Finally a New Year's Day meal with all the bells and whistles, no noise and dry clothes. And a hot shower! And a safe way to cast off for the next island. Now it's back to Puerto Williams, the administrative center of Tierra del Fuego. And then further counterclockwise up the Chilean coast to Valparaiso, the destination of her first stage.

New on the boot 2012 from Aquapac: iPad case with headphone port

The market leader in waterproof bags will as usual be represented at the 2012 Düsseldorf Boat Show, now for the 16th time. In addition to our established range for protecting electronic devices such as smart phone, tablet, mobile phone, GPS, and camera or pouches, backpacks and dry bags, we present a new case for your tablet: with new built-in headphone jack, so that you don't have to expose your device any longer to water, sand or dust, but still can listen to music. Of course - as before - your tablet is fully functional through the case's clear material. And for those who want to make video conferences on the beach, we now have integrated our proven Lenzflex material in the case's front and back for unimpaired photo and video quality.

Freya Hoffmeister is currently circumnavigating South America in a kayak, including Cape Horn! The first human being who ever tried it. It is 70 days beginning November 2011 and after takeoff from Buenos Aires, Argentina, she already has half of the argentina-coast behind her on her way to the Cape. After the Cape's circumnavigation she will paddle up to Valparaiso, Chile, where she will arrive in September 2012. Then there is a pause before it goes on in early 2013 to create a total of 22,000 kilometers: more infos.

Janice Jakait starts on 21 November 2011 from Portugal to Antigua in the Caribbean, the first German to cross the Atlantic in a rowing boat. She is four months at sea, to row the 6,000 miles. Her adventure is under the motto "row for silence" with which she wants to draw attention to the increasing pollution of the oceans through noise and to the protection of whales: more infos.

Andreas Gabriel has been enroute since May 2011 to go round large parts of Europe in a double-catamaran-kayak. His motto: "Sailing against prejudice." After starting in Husum, he has already left behind Rhine, Main, Danube, Black Sea, the Bosporus and the Aegean including Mykonos having reached the Corinth Canal early November. From there it goes on to Italy, Spain, Portugal and the Bay of Biscay, up into the North Sea and back to Husum. Russia failed because he did not get visas ...: more infos.

For Aquapac it was the most successful participation in the Boot-Show in Dusseldorf to date. We have never had so many visitors to our newly designed booth. They could find out everything about the waterproof bags and use the opportunity to learn about our new look, the new color of our cases and the new storm-proof range. The most popular cases were our phone case 108 and the new iPad case 664-i. Particularly new clients could not believe their eyes, when they noticed that even the touch screen works through the case, and that there are no impairments of speech, hearing or photo quality. "I'll take it, " was an often heard phrase.
Managing Director Peter Lichtenberg was accordingly satisfied. "Just great. Customers know that they get the best quality and safety from the market leader. An incentive for us to continue our way consistently and to care for the best satisfaction of our customers. "

It is already clear: Aquapac will also be on the boat in 2012, for the 16th time.

Aquapac 2011:  Stormproof? Or rather waterproof?

New appearance, new film material for the approved waterproof range, and with the Storm Proof Range a new product range from January 2011: Three updates will be presented on the Boot Dusseldorf 2011 by Aquapac, Your manufacturer of waterproof bags for protection of your electronic devices and your personal valuables.

Waterproof-Range: Aquapac here relies on proven methods. For 27 years, the waterproof bags with the worldwide patented Aqua clip are on the market: submersible to five meters and also protecting against sand and dust. The bags are tested under the IPX8 standard, the highest industry standard. The film of the bags is still made from TPU, that is absolutely free of PVC. The Waterproof range is delivered in a fine gray from January 2011. Just the right app to waterproof iPad, iPhone, Android phone, mini-or SLR camera, PDA or GPS & Co.  and still use the device through the clear film without further restrictions.

Stormproof-Range: With the Stormproof Range with its roll-up seal closure system Aquapac has expanded its range, especially for the outdoor sector. There, where rain, splash water, mud, sand and dust are to be expected, but you don't necessarily have to go underwater with your mobile phone, camera, GPS, tablet PC, or the personal belongings. In addition to various smaller bags for all sorts of electronic devices there is a new waterproof, very lightweight backpack with 25 liters and waterproof bags up to a size of 35 liters. Backpack and bags are distinguished by the fact that you can separate wet / dirty items from clean / dry ones with inside pockets. For the first time Aquapac also offers three padded, waterproof camera bags: for your mini up to the SLR camera.

The Stormproof range is tested by IPX6 standard which means it that is unharmed when besprinkled with a fire hose. The film is made of durable nylon PU. As with the waterproof series, all buttons, rotary switches and touch screens can be operated through the case. The photo quality is not compromised. Cases are delivered in the colors gray or orange. The series will be available from January 2011.

Aquapac at "boot 2010" in Düsseldorf

aquapac boot düsseldorf

The market-leader for waterproof cases Aquapac strikes a positive balance of the fair "boot Düsseldorf 2010". The trend of 2009 with a growing number of visitors and dealers continued. Lots of counseling session were hold: with consumers and dealers. We listed lots of acquisitions. Some visitors came the third or fourth time to our booth to buy their Aquapac-Cases personally.

Best running products are our iPhone-Case and our camera-bags. But also our waterproof bag, the Noataks, and our waterproof backpack was asked for frequently. Lots of  dealers found their way to Aquapac, too. We are expecting  that Aquapacs will be representend in much more communities in the following month.

„The interest for Aquapac waterproof cases is undaunted", as the managing-director of Aquapac-Aquaman Germany Petra Lichtenberg stated: „Consumers and dealers bank on our brand quality." For Aquapac it was the 14th appearance on the world biggest fair for watersport.

Freya Hoffmeister: Race around Australia is done!!!

Freya Hoffmeister Aquapac Germany

Congratulations Freya!!!! Freya Hoffmeister has done it: Today (December 15th, 2009) the German sea kajaker finished her race around Australia. 14000 kilometers of paddling around the fifth continent. At noon she landed at Queenscliff close to Melbourne where  she startet on the 18th of January. In one of her first interviews she said: " I am happy. And I am tired. I am happy not to be paddling any more, but it was worth the risk."

Freya is supported by Aquapac-Aquaman Germany with waterproof cases for the safety of all her electronic equipment for years now.

If you wanna have a look on a video of her arrival, please  click

Which Aquapac cases are on board of Freya Hoffmeisters kayak:

All of the electronical equipment of Freya Hoffmeister like VHF,  GPS, Cellphone, camera or maps are packed in the waterproof cases of Aquapac Germany. The cases made its job very well, as Freya Hoffmeister wrote in a mail. During her trip we send her some new ones, while some get damaged during very rough landings. Here a message of Freya:

"Hallo Petra,

Aquapacs allover my luggage, vielen Dank!

Sally Turner lost her camera overboard during a sailing rescue. Jon Puckey found it 2 weeks later 12 miles down the coast - still safe and sound in its Aquapac

What a customer experienced with her Aquapac:

Dear Sir or Madam

I am enclosing the Aquapac Camera Case which I have been using this year when sailing, as I think that you may be interested in its story.

On 24 August 2008, it was lost overboard from our club safety boat, during a rescue in very rough conditions off Pentewan, Cornwall. The clasp of the dry bag it was in had snapped.

On 7 September, it was discovered wedged in rocks on the beach at Talland Bay by Jon Puckey. He was amazed to discover that inside the case, the camera was still dry.

John Puckey shows where he found the case

Using the memory card, he uploaded the pictures, numbering about 100, and together with his family, managed to deduct that we probably lived in Fowey and, due to pictures of the Red Arrows taken from our property, were even able to pin point the house. The family returned it to me yesterday.

We estimate that the camera and case had covered, at the very least, twelve miles eastward along the coast  before coming ashore! As you can see from the condition of the case, it suffered quite serious scouring among the rocks!

So, I have my camera back, together with pictures which I had not yet transferred to my computer, so I am delighted and have met some lovely people.

Best wishes

Sally Turner

Race around Australia: German kayaker Freya Hoffmeister nearly at home!

Freya Hoffmeister at Pt. Peron Aquapac Germany

German Kayaker Freya Hoffmeister is on the 250th day of her trip around Australia. And she is close to be the first woman who ever done it. She is on the 12th stage from Perth to Esperance. In Perth were waiting several additional Aquapacs. Her whole electronical advice is stored secure in our waterproof cases.

On september 24th she took a stepstone: the surrounding of Cape Leeuwin. Two days she has to wait for reasonable weather conditions. Normaly there a clashing waves of about 30 fts. against the cliffs. And shortly under the surface are waiting dangerous cliffs, too. On day 249 the weather and the waves were okay. Dozens of people were waiting at the lighthouse to witness the historical surrounding. And Freya managed it without any problem. When she reached land she jubilate: "I made it!!!! I´m on the homerun now". Congratulations from the whole Aquapc-Team.

And Freya goes on paddling: still 3000 km out of 15.000 left  - then she has reached Melbourne. Where she started at the beginning of the year.

Aquapac on the „boot“ fair: No sign of crisis

aquapac messe düsseldorf

In spite of the economic crisis Aquapac was successful on the Düsseldorf „boot“ fair in January 2009. Although the total number of show visitors was 10% below 2008 we had more visitors on our booth than ever before. And these people bought more than the years before. Especially our new SLR case and the new „Small Camera mit Hardlense“ attracted attention. The new „Noatak“ dry bags most of all surprised „old“ fans as they mark a completely new range.
Managing director Petra Lichtenberg: „We had a responsive audience. Competent and more interested in the upcoming summer season than in economic crises.” Her impression: “More customers tend to protect their devices with our cases because a new purchase is clearly more expensive – another form of saving. Our customers und us we don’t let anyone spoil our good mood. We will attend the next “boot” again!” Our 11th by the way.
